SCRIPTURE – Psa 14:1                                                                                                                                                                 MARCH, 2021

THE FOOL hath said in his heart, There is no God.
They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

SUBJECT – A SHIP OF FOOLS!! [1]

The definition of a fool, has several different characteristics. There is the idea that a fool is a person who lacks prudence, and good judgment [Merriam-Websters]. There is also the idea that a fool is someone that acts outside of the norms of society.

Then, we have the idea that it is relative, meaning, it may at one time appear to be foolishness, but at a later time, prove to be acceptable.

Generally speaking, when a person carries on in such a way, that they are completely at odds with what is acceptable behavior in the community, they could be considered as being a fool!!

People in this condition, should be avoided, for the simple fact that, believe it or not, they have a tendency to influence others, in to becoming like minded. You have undoubtedly heard the old saying 'if you hang around dogs long enough, you are bound to catch fleas.'

Now this condition could be the result of any one of several factors. It could be something the person is born with. It could also be because of some type of injury, the use of drugs, some sort of tragedy, or the influence of others. In any case, a person in this condition is easy to spot, because they always tend to say, and do things, that make them stand out in a crowd.

Some will say, if this is the case, then they should be helped, and not shunned and avoided. My answer to that is, I agree. However, unless the person that is trying to help them is prepared to deal with them over an extended period of time, the best thing to do, for one's own sanity, is to steer clear of them, unless they want to put themselves in the position of becoming like they are.

No one is trying to say that these people are some sort of demonic entity that should be wiped out of 'decent society.' Because, in my case, I should have been institutionalized, decades ago.

Ever heard the saying, 'it takes one, to know one'? Well, if the shoe fits!!!

Fools come in all races, all ages, all sexes, colors, all economic stages, all religious affiliations, and a whole gambit of other groups.

Not only that, but, entire groups could easily be classified as being fools, because they all act and think alike!!

And, it is on this point, that I want to address in this message. Because, if you are dealing with a single individual, you pretty much have little to fear. But, when you are dealing with a group, then, that is a totally different situation. Because you may be outnumbered, and things could quickly get out of hand, and you could become a victim.

Now I mentioned earlier, all of the different factors that could be the cause of a person acting the way they are, and, in that case, a proper diagnosis of the individual is required, before they can be properly helped.

Well, in like manner, this message is a diagnosis of a particular type of fool, from the standpoint of the Word of God. And, unlike the idea that their condition is the result of something that is possibly not their fault, this type of fool, is definitely in their condition, based solely on their own choices.

Look at the subject verse!! It says it all!!! The fool, has said in his heart, there is no God.

It then goes on to describe some of the things that they are doing, which is evidence of their condition. I'll address this part later.

When I first saw this scripture, I was getting the idea that if a person merely said that they didn't believe in God, then that, made them a fool.

The thing is, they may merely be saying that because of some catastrophic event that has occurred in their lives, and out of a moment of frustration, made that statement. That, in no way classifies them as being a fool.

The key is in the part of the scripture where it says 'in his heart!!' Now we have a frame of reference, as to the condition of a fool, from God's standpoint!!

Those of us that are Christians, need to realize several things about the heart. It is the central part of the body that keeps everything else going, in the physical realm. But, in the spiritual realm, it is the core of our spiritual condition.

It is what makes us, us. Whatever man is, is based on the condition of his heart, as it relates to God.

For example, did you know that merely confessing that Jesus is who He says He is[Lord], is not going to do you one bit of good, as far as being saved?? What has to happen is, you have to believe it, 'in your heart!!'

In Romans 10:9-10, the heart is mentioned twice, with its position actually being ahead of speaking. This means, before a person confesses something, they need to believe it first, in their heart, before God will accept it.

The spiritual reality of this point is awesome in that it covers the entirety of man's condition both positively, and negatively.

Whatever you believe in your heart, is what you are going to be!! You can either be striving to be more like God, or, by default, be more like a fool, that completely rejects Him.

Now, it's one thing to look at the world [the ungodly] and address them as fools. But, what I am addressing in this message, is another type of fool, and that is, the ones found, not in the world, but in the Church!!

That's right people!! I am talking about people that are in churches all over this nation, and the world, that are the biblical definition of 'fools!!'

What do I mean by that?? Look at the last part of the subject verse. What does it describe them doing?? They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Now, notice this!!

The writer is using terms that address human behaviour, and not what a person says. When it comes to the ungodly, we know that they, by nature, are already guilty of doing these things. Therefore, there is no need in the writer addressing their behaviour.

However, if we look at just who the writer was addressing, we will see that he was talking about God's people. The ones that proclaimed that they were His people. They talked the talk, but didn't walk the walk!!

And, if you are not walking the walk, then that means, your heart is not in tune with Him. That then means, you are acting as if God, or His Word/Jesus, means nothing to you, or doesn't have any influence on how you conduct your life.

And, this is the key, in determining what a fool really is!! It is their actions that gives them away!!

The bible tells us in Proverbs 23:7, For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he!!

Anything a person does, correlates with what is in his heart.

Let's look at it from this standpoint.

Let's say I am in a room filled with some explosive materials. And, let's say I am fully aware of my surroundings, and the fact that if I do anything that will cause a spark to be generated, the whole place will explode, and I could be killed.

Now, here I am, fully aware of what is what. Any decisions I make concerning my situation could result in my being able to leave that room alive, or being injured, or killed.

I am not mentally ill. I am not under the influence of drugs or some other outside influence. I am totally cognoscente, with all of my faculties in working order, the way God designed them.

This then means, my actions will determine if I am thinking clearly or not.

If, I choose to light a match, or do something else to cause a spark, and the room explodes, then, I can definitely be classified as a fool. Because I knew the danger I was in, yet, completely ignored it, and now am paying the price.

Well, in like manner, the person that claims to be a Christian, has to realize the danger that they face by going against what God says. And where would they get this information?? From the Bible.

From the beginning in Genesis, through the book of Revelations, example after example is given as to what happens to individuals, groups and nations, that go against Him.

So, if a person has taken the time to read it, then, they will have been exposed to the reality of God's Word.

Part of His Word tells us, that among other things, He does not change!! That means, unlike what mostly everyone thinks, if He punished a person in the old testament times for a particular sin, He still punishes individuals today, over 4000 years later, for doing the exact same thing.

What this means is, Christians that go around proclaiming that this is the 21^st century, and that times and things have changed, are actually carrying on as if God, has changed. And, if they are doing that, they are essentially saying, The God that is portrayed in the old testament, is not the God we serve today. That God is, no more!

So, what they have actually done is gotten rid of Him, and are now, actually serving a god of their own making. A false god!!

That, by all definitions, identifies them as being a fool. Because they have come to this decision, despite all the warnings of the danger they are in, just like me in that room full of explosives.

I was fully aware of my situation with the explosives, and what would happen if I violated that position, and they, who knew what God had to say about the condition they were facing, and what would happen if they violated His directives.

Consequently, if they chose to ignore the Truth of God's Word, then, that came from their hearts. And thus, they are labeled as fools.

If we look at the last part of the subject verse, it says what they are guilty of doing, that has been the sign of them being fools.

They are corrupt. This means they can't be trusted with anything, or to do anything positive, or Godly. There is always some ulterior motive behind anything that they do, that appears to be helpful.

They can be bought by anyone willing to pay the price for them to subvert righteousness. In other-words, they prostitute themselves.

They do abominable things. This means, they do things that, unlike other sins, these things will usually cause God to respond a lot quicker, and with much more vengeance, than He normally would, for the others.

Two things that are abominable in the sight of God are abortion, and homosexuality.

Why these, you might ask??

Because both of them, are an open defiance to His plan for mankind.

Abortion, tends to destroy the most innocent among us, babies in the womb. Babies that God is forming, to be used by Him, at a future time, for His Glory.

Homosexuality, openly defies God's design for the man, the woman, and most of all, the family. God made the woman, to be united with the man, as husband and wife. And they were commanded to be fruitful and multiply. Obviously, two men, or two women, can't fulfill that directive.

Yet, knowing this, many people that claim to be Christians, embrace both of these without a second thought. The reason being, in their hearts, they try to attach God to the belief that He has changed, and is not the God of the OT!! Therefore, they have become fools!!

And, once you become a fool, God ceases dealing with you, and you are left in your own mess that you have created for yourself, and are literally, on your own.

That is, unless you repent!

There is always hope, even for a fool. Just look at where I was, decades ago. I was one of the biggest devil's walking the streets. I wasn't thinking about God. I was too busy, having fun.

Was I aware of God?? Sure. I was raised in the church. My uncle was a preacher, and my aunt, the church pianist. I later served on a junior usher board, and even served in summer vacation bible school.

However, as I said, I was aware of God, but, I didn't know all that much about Him.
