IN MEMORIAM
This section, is dedicated to those persons, past, and recent, who are now deceased, that I feel, have had a profound influence on my life, or have been close friends and associates..
Throughout the years, all of us need family and friends., because they are around us to help us take, and stay on the right paths in life, and when they are gone, there is a void, that only Christ can fill.
Most entries have a link to take you to an online memorial, where you can get additional information on the person such as place of burial, obituary, photo, and have the ability to leave a nnote for the family, or opinion of the person.

Bessie Mae McTyre - On August 18, 2018, at 10:52a, this woman that I have spent nearly 49 years with, my one and only wife, departed this life to spend eternity with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She fought a great battle with pancreatic cancer, with which she was diagnosed, earlier this year. However, at that time, it had advanced too much to be contained.
On the day she departed, she waited until I entered her room at the care center where she was staying, before taking her last couple of breaths. She wasn't conscious, but I guess her spirit saw me and she decided to go on home.
Looking back, she did a lot for me from the time we met, and stuck with me through several turbulent times.
Her greatest contribution was being the driving force behind me getting saved. I was a tough case... But, her love for me, kept her needling me until I finally turned my life around and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
I don't know what the future holds for me, but, I know that she, will be there, looking in on me from time to time, when she takes time from enjoying her freedom from all the cares, and problems this world/life presents.
I love and miss you Cookie [snooks].
Her ashes are right here at home, in our house with me.

Hazel A. Richardson - My mother, Hazel A. Richardson [Feb. 7, 1910 Aug. 16, 2004] As a single mother, at age 36, who had had, 4 children who were born and died in infancy, before I was born, she was the one that kept me rooted and grounded, in those things that were of good report. She made sure that my values were upright, and she didn't take any foolishness from me. She whipped my behind when I misbehaved, and rewarded me when I did good.
In order to make sure that I had good parental guidance, she worked at home, having given up working in a beauty shop, just so she could be right there when i needed her. Every little hurt, every little pain, she was right there, to make things better. She made sure that I had sound Spiritual guidance, by not sending me, but taking me to church., where I first got my introduction to God. And, now that I look back on it, the job of a parent, should be, to represent what Christ is like, so that we can, when we are old enough, understand the Love of God, by experience. That is the job of a parent, and in my eyes, she did it well. Every thing that I am today, outside of Christ, I owe to 'mom.'
My mother was cremated, and I have her ashes.

Della Robinson - My mother's great aunt, Della Robinson [?????? - 1961] Nanny, as I called her, was the wife of a preacher, Rev. George Robinson, who I called 'pop poo' , and a church pianist. Was a lady that I used to love going to visit. She lived with her husband, in what was then, the Canfield and Beaubien area of the city of Detroit, MI. My mother would, at times when, she needed to go out, or on an outing where kids were not invited, take me to stay at her house. Back then, this was in the late '40's, and early '50's, that area had, what could basically be called a small farming community, where the houses on the block, had backyards, where the residents, like my Nanny, had live chickens, a hog, and pigs. She also had a dog. I used to go out in the backyard, and play with the chickens, and the dog, but I left the hog alone, because I was scared of him.
However, the other thing I liked about going to her house, was when she took me to church, during the week, when she had to play piano. There, I got a chance to play the tambourine, while she played the piano, and listen to the preacher, a woman named Octavia Oates, pastor of the Temple of Light and Life. I had a good time at the services, because after the service, they had cake, ice cream and juice.
She was the one who helped raise my mother. I suppose she helped keep my mom on the right path, and it was passed on to me.
She is buried in United Memorial Gardens, Plymouth, Michigan

Earline Scott My cousin, who was the daughter of my great aunt, Della Robinson. I don't remember all that much about her, except she was very light skinned, and had real long, jet black hair. She was quite a bit older than me, because she was married, while I was about 10 years old.. I used to like visiting her home, which she shared with her husband, Eddie, who was a boxer. Earline, died from the complications of breast cancer, in 1960, about 1 year before her mother. Both her, and her mother, as well as her husband, Eddie, are buried together in United Memorial Gardens, Plymouth, Michigan.

Stewart Anderson Was the only man that I called dad, because he was in my life, just about all of my life, up until I went in to the Air Force. He used to work at Ford Motor Company, and, had a 'Bump and Paint' shop, on the west side of Detroit. Some weekends, I would spend at the shop, while he was working on cars, He even got me to help sand the cars, before he painted them. I have good memories of him, and his two daughters, Marian, and Amanda,, both of whom, I had a childhood crush on. He also, held a high office in the Masons. Once, he took me to one of the meetings, where they had a 'spelling bee' , which I won. He bought me my first bike. He gave me my first car, and pleasant memories of the time I spent with him.
He is buried in Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens in Livonia, Michigan.

Earl McTyre I don't really know much about Earl, only that I carry his name. However, I can remember being in his company from time to time, and him taking me and some friends of mine on a ride, where someone ran in to us. I can't remember just when he died, but, I did go view his body. I don't know, where he is buried. However, I have been in touch with his other children, from another marriage, and some of their family members.

Hattie Bryant Aunt Hattie, as I, and just about everyone in the neighborhood, called her, including my mother, was another lady, who like my Great Aunt, kept me in line as well, and was a Church woman. She had a niece, named Gloria Richardson, who was my age, and we used to play, and sometimes fight together. Since she stayed just around the corner from us, actually, across the alley, many times when my mother was going out, I would spend the night at Aunt Hattie's house, where Gloria, and me would play. Aunt Hattie died, at the age of, I believe 107 years old.. The last time I saw her, was at her house, where she rented out rooms to people, and had a live in caregiver. I would come by and visit her, in the later years, and we would talk about the Lord, and how good He was, to have blessed her with such a long life. By the way, she was still very alert.
Her place of burial is Elmwood Cemetery, in Detroit, MI.

Errol Jennings Errol LaDon Jennings, was a friend of mine, that I met, when I moved in to his neighborhood, in 1959. He, and myself, were part of a group of, I guess you could call 'geeks' back then, because at ages 13, the only things we liked to do was go bowling, listen to jazz, play baseball, dabble with electronics, and be diligent about our school work. There were mainly 4 of us, Errol, Pierre Stitt, Mose Davis, and myself. We all also, had an interest in model trains. We formed a club, called the 'Counts Savings Club.' Mose, went on to start a music group called, 'The Fabulous Counts', using the name of the club. Errol, was stricken with Leukemia, and died in November, 1963, at the age of 16, after having been in and out of the hospital, several times. All of us kids, took off from school, to attend his funeral November 21, 2001. This day is in my mind very vividly, because the next day, JFK, was assassinated..
Errol is buried at Westlawn Cemetery, Wayne Michigan.

Brenda McCree [Brooks] Brenda Brooks, was a friend of mine, from the time I was 13, in the year 1959. She was also the cousin of another close friend, Errol Jennings, who is also listed above, as well as a distant cousin of Diana Ross [the Supremes.] She had a very sweet, and innocent disposition, and never, said anything bad about anyone, or even argued with anyone. She was always a joy to be around. The last time I saw her, was about 1 year before her untimely death, at the hands of her companion. I heard about it, the day of, or just after her funeral, so I couldnt attend. All of us were extremely close, and, I have never forgotten her, nor will I ever, as long as God gives me the ability to stay in my right mind.
She is buried at Westlawn Cemetery, Wayne Michigan, as is her cousin Errol, above.

Fawn Nikole Walton Fawn, or as we called her, Nikole, was a member of the church I used to belong to, as an assistant minister. Her entire family were members of the church, Tabernacle of Praise. There is a lot that could be said about Nikole. The only bad thing, is that she was taken away from us, at the tender age of 5. She died as a result of being thrown from the car she was riding in, with her father, when it was hit by a fire engine.
She is buried at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens, Livonia, Michigan. [see link for photo, and more info]

Florence George Florence George, was a woman that I met, in 2001, shortly after I moved in to her neighborhood. She was a woman, that had this very nicely painted house, with all sorts of flowers, wind chimes, and other things that made her house the prettiest in the neighborhood. She stayed a few doors away from me, on the other side of our street. She lived there with her husband, some nieces, and nephews, and had a few other grown kids. Her and her husband, kept an eye on the little children playing on our end of the block, and was like all of their mother. She would scold them when they did something wrong, and give them treats, when she had them. Every one loved her. She and I would talk about things in the neighborhood, but mostly, we talked about the Lord. She went to church every Sunday. Her husband took her, until he passed, then, the church would send a bus, to pick her up, and bring her home.
She is buried at Lincoln Memorial Park, Clinton Twp., MI [see link for photo, and more info]
******************************
Houston George Houston George, was Florence's husband. When I met him in 2001, he was essentially a good husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. We didn't talk all that much, because he wasn't all that well. But, when we did, he had a lot of observations about things, and told me about some of his past. He liked fishing, and repairing things. If he couldn't fix it, he would ask me, before asking someone else.
He is buried at Lincoln Memorial Park, Clinton Twp., MI[see link for photo, and more info]

Gwendolyn Lake Gwen, was one of the children of Houston and Florence George, that I knew, but rarely had any conversation with.. She was quiet, but, smart. She had, 2 children. Like several of her siblings, she passed before her mother.
She is buried at Lincoln Memorial Park, Clinton Twp., MI[see link for photo, and more info]
******************************
Louise Gipson Louise, was the mother of my closest childhood friend. She was another person, whose house I would spend the night at, on occasion. She was another church going woman, that kept us in line. Other than that, I can't remember much about her, except, she could really cook. She had to, because she and her husband, had a houseful of kids.
She is buried at Westlawn Cemetery, Wayne Michigan[see link for photo, and more info]

Rev. Charles Kiser Rev. Kiser, was an associate pastor at my home church of Evangel Ministries, Detroit, Michigan. I first met him, when I joined Evangel, shortly after I got saved. At that time, he was just starting out in the church, and lived in an apartment, run owned by the church.. Charles grew in to ministry, over the years I knew him. He, like myself, was one who took his ministry, seriously, and had no problem, letting people know where he stood on issues, that most Christian, tend to be straddling the fence on. At his home going, I remarked that 'He walked softly, but carried a Big Stick.' On a few occasions, we would sit and talk about the Lord, and how good He is.
Charles is buried at National Memorial Gardens [aka Detroit Memorial Park West], Redford, Michigan. [see link for photo, and more info]

Jamie Marbury Jamie was my niece, daughter of my brother-in-law. She was always a happy young girl, and enjoyed playing with my daughter. At an early age, she accepted Christ, and started attending the church, of a friend of her father's. It wasn't long before she took on several duties in the church, as a aid to the pastor. At about the age of 19, or thereabouts, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which took her life, at age 22.
She is buried at Mt Elliott Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan. [see link for photo, and more info]

Rev. Iretha Minneweather Iretha, was the wife of a friend, and brother in the Lord, Rev. Ed. Minneweather. I first met her, when I was invited to come to the radio station that Ed was broadcasting the gospel, from, when we got off of work., at night. She was there and made me feel right at home, seeing that I was a little nervous about this being the first time I would be on the radio. That was the only time I saw her. However, I heard a lot of good things about her, from other brothers and sisters in the Lord, that were in closer contact with her, over the years.
She is buried in Texas. [see link for photo, and more info]

Ronald Eugene Washington Ron was a guy that I used to work with at Chrysler, for over 20 years. We also worked together at a garage, repairing cars. He was a nice guy, and everybody liked him. When I used to pass out tracts in the plant, he was always reading them, even though he didn't really show much interest in them. However, he was a member of a church, that I knew about.
He is buried at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens, Livonia, Michigan[see link for photo, and more info]

Bernice Cleo Ms Bernice Davis This is the mother of my old girlfriend Robbie Cochran, below. There aren't very many things I can say about her, but, she was always a warm caring person. And, talk about cooking, Whenever I was at her house, and she had some food available, she would offer me some, and I could eat her food all day, especially her biscuits. I never had before, or since, tasted anything that came close to those biscuits. She even made a place for me in one of here children's bedroom's to take a nap, one day when I was over there and a little tired. Her hospitality, was top notch, and I will never forget her.
She is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Detroit, MI.[see link for photo and more info]

Robbie Ruth Cochran What can I say about Robbie?? She was the apple of my eye, for several years. We met at a nightclub, that she worked at. Actually, she came in, and was hired by the owner, as a go-go dancer. We became friends, almost instantly, and continued our friendship for several months, before we became more than just friends. This part of our relationship, carried on over several years. As I remember her, she is responsible for my getting saved. She is responsible for me meeting my wife. This is one lady, I will never forget, as long as the Lord gives me the mind to do so. After seeing her the last time, back in 1978, I lost contact with her, because I got married, But my wife, and I, often thought about her. After 30 years, I decided to see if I could contact her, just to see how she was doing. Unfortunately, when I did contact one of her family members, I found out she had passed. I never got to say, good bye.
She is buried at National Memorial Gardens [aka Detroit Memorial Park West], Redford, Michigan.[see link for photo, and more info]

Lamont Arrington Lamont, was brother in the Lord, that attended bible study groups in the plant, that we worked at. Although I didn't know him all that well, because we didn't work in the same area, neither did we associate outside of the plant. However, what I saw of him, in the study group, was the Light of the Word of God, shining through, in his witness, and testimony.
Lamont, was cremated, and his ashes,' location, is unknown,[see link for photo, and more info]

Samuel Gohleston Sam, who I knew briefly in Junior High School, became my running buddy, when I came back from the military in 1967. We were very close friends. Even though he had a job, he still was a hustler, just like me. He was the hard nosed half, while I was more the easy going half. We did some crazy things at times to get women. We would pick one up, and take her to a cemetery, and threaten to do something to them, even though we were just joking, but they didn't know that, and we wound up scoring with most of them. It was said of us, 'If you see one of them, then, the other one is somewhere close.' Some times, when I was between having a place to stay, I stayed at his house. Actually, it was his mother's house. Sam did, after a while, get married, and moved with his wife, to a place of their own. Some time later, he became ill, with what, I don't know, and after some time later, passed away.
Where he is buried, as of this printing, I don't know.

James Horace Betty James was the president of my UAW Local for about 5 years, starting in 2000. He was also friend to all of those who knew him. Even with his position, he always been accessible to the regular people. In an organization of politicians, he was of a different breed. Maybe that was because he was also a Christian, and attended bible study groups in our pllant, when he had the time. I didn't personally know him, outside the plant, but, his personality, was such, that it felt as if we had been close friends, for years. I would say,, it was because of the Christ,, in him.
James is buried in MT. Hope Memorial Gardens.[see link for photo, and more info]

Jessica Vanessa Jones - was the granddaughter of a close sister in the Lord, who lost her life, when she was accidentally run over by a truck, while riding her bike, at a family outing, in a park. I didn't know her personally, but, when a child is taken from us, by the enemy, it is a tragedy, and the family needs my support. If you will notice, I said the enemy took her. I believe one of the greatest mistakes men and women of God make in cases like this, is to try to comfort the family by telling them, God needed the child with Him, because He missed them. God doesn't need anything from us, especially a child that He has just given, loving parents. This is one of the main reasons people turn away from God, because they think He is Heartless, to give parents a child, then take them back.
Jessica Vanessa Jones, is buried in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MI

Jessica, and the little girl below, Aiyana, were both 7 years old, and lost their lives, within a few weeks of each other.

Aiyana Stanley-Jones - was a young child, that lost her life, when she was accidentally killed by police officers who, in trying to apprehend a shooting suspect, who was hiding out in her house. The circumstances of the actual cause of death, seemed to have come about from an incendiary device that was fired in to the front window of the house, and it landed on Aiyana, who was laying asleep on a couch. It was a tragedy, that shook this city. When a child is taken from us, by the enemy, it is a tragedy, and the family needs our support. I didnt know her, or the family, but, I had to pay my respects to this little angel, and her family.
Aiyana is buried in Trinity Cemetery, Detroit[see link for photo, and more info]
Aiyana, and the little girl above, Jessica, were both 7 years old, and lost tragically their lives, within a few weeks of each other.

William 'Dooley' Hill Was my next door neighbor for about 10 years. When I moved in the neighborhood, He, and his family, were one of the closer acquaintances of mine, that I first met.. He had a towing business, and many times I would see him towing cars around the neighborhood. We would run in to each other occasionally, at the neighborhood gas station, or at the market. He was a nice, quiet guy, that was just 3 years older than me, but I would call him, Mr. Hill. He passed at home, after suffering a heart attack.
Mr. Hill is buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit, MI.[see link for photo and more info]

Gertrude Harris Gertrude was the mother of my childhood friend, Adolphus Harris [listed below]. They lived in the same apartment building that I did, right down the hall from my apartment. His mother and sister, used to come to my apartment, to have my mother do their hais. She was a very nice lady, as I remember her. Always had a smile on her face, and was a pleasure to be around. I hadn't seen her since about 1959 or so, when we moved out of th building. It was by accident, that I found out that she had passed, about a month earlier, at the age of 99. She preceded her son's death [listed below], by about 3 weeks.

Adolphus Harris Adolphus, was a childhood friend, that lived on the same floor, right down the hall from me, with his mother [listed above], and sister, in an apartment building. He and I used to play together. As I remember, he was a kind of pest, always messing around with me, and my other friends, because he was 3 years younger than us,. But, he was always trying to run around with us older kids. I remember an incident, when I was selling kool aid in front of our building, at a bus stop. Adolphus, wanted me to give him some, and I said 'no.' He then reached in to the pitcher of kool aid, with his hand, which made me have to stop selling it. I found out about his passing by accident, when I was looking up some information about another associate of mine, on the site of a funeral home. It just happened that I looked at scheduled services, and saw his name. I hadn't seen him since about 1959, when we moved out of the building. He passed about 3 weeks, after his mother [listed above]. Both are buried in the same cemetery.

Richard A. [Saint] Enlow -- Saint, as he was known on the streets of Detroit, was a friend that I used to run around with, during my, street life. There were 5 of us, that ran around together, as part of our hustling days. He was not known to be violent, and, quite the contrary, was highly refined, and educated in the ways of the streets, made it hard to believe, that he met his death, through violence. As was his character, he was shot, by jumping in front of his cousin, whom the shooter, was aiming at.[click this link, for photo and more info]

Sarah Francis Cotton Is the mother of a sister in the Lord, that I have had the pleasure of knowing for over 20+ years. The first, and only time I met Sarah Cotton, was at the funeral of her great granddaughter, Jessica Vanessa Jones [listed above]. Though I didn't know her personally, she did impress me with her demeanor at the funeral. In the midst of that tragedy, she gave God the Glory. Upon reading her Obituary, I see just where she got it from, as well as her daughter.

Dr. Martin Ira Apple Dr. Apple was my Opthamologist for a little over 2 years. I was still a patient of his having an upcoming appointment with him, when his office called me to inform me of his death. I didn't know that much about him, outside of his office, but, what I knew of him, in that office, I can say he was a really nice guy, always with a smile on his face. And his office staff were asfriendly as he was. The shock of hearing about his passing, was eclipsed by how it came about. Apparentlly, listening to a tape of his funeral, he alledgedly committed suicide.

Mrs. Yvette Renea Collier
Yevette, was the wife of a close brother in the Lord, David O. Collier, who is an associate minister at Greater Grace Temple, here in Detroit, MI. I have known both of them for over 25 years. She, always had a pleasant personality, and a big smile on her face whenever I saw her. It has been almost 25 years since the last time I saw her personally. I have been in contact with her husband, Dave, as well as seeing recent pictures of her over social media, which is how I found out about her passing.

Roosevelt Gipson
This was my life-long best friend. We were practically raised together. His mother and mine got to know each other, by reason of my mother's work as a beautician. We lived in an apartment building, and he and his sisters and brothers, lived down the street. Many times we would spend the night at each other's homes. Even though most of the time it was at my house.
As we grew older, we went our separate ways, especially when it came to the military, but we still had that connection, even though we lost contact over the past few years.
It wasn't until I received a notice from his brother, that I was made aware of his passing. It was kind of hard to swallow seeing how close we were in age. I could not attend his homegoing, because he resided in Oklahoma, while I am still here in Detroit. I will never forget him.

Rev. George W. Bogle
Pastor Bogle, was my pastor. If it weren't for him, I doubt very seriously that I would be the man I am today. I came to know him through a friend that happened to be a minister, and also my foreman at Chrysler back in the late 70's. At that time, I really didn't want anything to do with church, because I was too busy having all types of fun. However, because I had met the woman who would later become my wife, my friend recommended pastor Bogle to me to check out. From the first day I walked in to his church, I was impressed by the friendliness and commoradery that were expressed towards my family.
We joined a short time later, and, remained members for nearly 4 decades.
There was so much going on at the church, that it was hard to see it closed for anything. It was basically open 24/7.

SUPT. ROBERT MCKEE JR. - I met Supt. McKee in the late '90's, when I was looking for another church to join up with, and found Tabernacle of Praise [TOP], which at the time was in its infancy, on the lower level of a YMCA, around the corner from my house. Bible study, was held weekly, in the basement of their home
My wife and I liked the small ministry where everyone knew each other and we quickly fit right in with them. My daughter was a hit with his children, and joined the choir. He had me as one of the associate ministers, sometimes preaching on Sunday.
Since that time, TOP, began to grow and had to move to different locations. Pastor Mckee, was a man that truly believed in what the Church was supposed to be about, and what the Word of God says. He lived his life, and preached according to all that Christ tells us to be, and do.
He was a great example of what a man of God, called to ministry, should be. His family reflects that, in that all of them, are carrying on in ministry, especially his wife Tychinna. My condolences to her, Robin, Kim, Alicia, Gabrielle, and Robert [BJ] McKee III, and their extended families.

DEACON WILLIE GIPSON Willie was a childhood friend that I met by way of my best friend, Roosevelt Gipson [above]. Willie was his cousin, and lived in the same neighborhood, 3 blocks away.
All of us were quite close, and stayed that way through our adult years, even though we each went our own separate ways. Each of us went in to the military after high school, so we sort of lost touch with each other.
Willie went on to become a deacon at his church, Greater New Mount Moriah, the same church we attended as children, which was also in the neighborhood.
He and I stayed in touch by sending Christmas cards to each other until his death.
He was a great friend, and an all around great guy!! It is too bad that he lost his life at the hands of an individual, that was once a relative, by way of marriage.

Thelma Marlene Tolson (neé Hogan)
Commonly known to me as Marlene, was my Canadian cousin.
Her father, and my mother were siblings, both born in Windsor, Ontario.
I didn't really know them that well, because when I was born, my mother, was a resident of Detroit, MI.
The first time that I was introduced to any of them, was when one of my cousins over here passed, and they Marlene's parents attended the funeral. Up until that time, at the age of 13 or so, I was unaware that I had cousins in Canada.
But, once I was able to go visit them, Marlene, was the first one that I met, and she was such a pleasant person to be around.
She has always had the type of personality that let people know that she was someone that cared about people.
We didn't keep in touch that much in our later years but, when we did talk on the phone, we had some pleasant conversations. Usually, they were either about family, or God.
That should let you know what type of woman she was.
Even though we weren't that close, I will miss her.
