SCRIPTURE - 2 Chron 7:14                                                                                              MARCH, 2004

If my people, which are called by my name (Christians), shall humble themselves (admit their wrongdoing), and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways(repent); then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

If you will overlook the obvious grammatical errors in the title, this month's message is designed to get you to realize something that not many people, namely Christians, understand. That message is, they hold the key to the control of their environment. It is within their power, to have an environment, full of the abundance of good things that God has put here for them, or, they can throw all of that away, and settle for the chaos, and troubles that are plaguing mankind today.

All over, we see a plethora of crime, famine, war, hopelessness, despair and outright debauchery. These things, are a direct result of man's disobedience to God. This disobedience, is known as, SIN.

When God created everything, and man, everything was good. All living things were in harmony with each other. There was no sickness or disease. And man, who God made in His image, was meant to live eternally.

But, due to his disobedience to God, not only was he punished, but the entire earth, was cursed. The result was, sickness, disease, and death. All of creation was in chaos. And it has been that way ever since. Only God, is able to straighten things out, but there are stipulations (pre requisites, if you will), that, MUST BE MET.

Let's look at the subject verse, and dissect it, bit by bit.

First, we see it starts out with, 'If.' That means, that anything that follows, will only happen, pursuant to certain conditions. It is these conditions, that most people completely ignore. It is these conditions, that I will go in to detail about.

Next, He identifies a certain group of people that He is talking about. The verse says, 'My people, which are called by My Name.' There are, despite what many tend to think, only a certain group of people that God, calls, His. Those people, are known today, as Christians. There are many that call themselves 'God's Children', but only those that are 'Born Again', are His children. So, the promise is to them. If you will notice, I inserted the word Christians. You won't find it in the King James Version of the bible.

The next word is 'will.' This little word, carries with it, an awesome, potential. That is because, God (the Creator of everything, even, man) is giving His people, the choice to exercise their own will, and discretion, as to whether or not they follow His directions.

Will, also means that there is no force exerted on them, to make their decision. Therefore, all responsibility, for their actions, rests solely, on them.

Next, we have the prime directive, that sets in motion, the conditions (pre requisites) that are necessary, to receive what God is promising.

Those words are, 'humble themselves.' These two words, represent the most major obstacle that all mankind faces. Because to humble oneself, means, in effect, to go against the one thing that God hates, in human nature, and that is, pride.

Pride, is, what makes man, feel that he is right, and able to live his life the way he wants, and that he does not need anyone telling him what to do, and how to do it.

If we look at the majority of our problems, they are all rooted and grounded in the minds of people, that they are the ones that are right in what they believe, and no one else is. When faced with an opposing point of view, they dismiss it as nonsense. Their total posture is, 'I am the ultimate authority on everything. No one knows more than me!! I AM LIKE GOD!!!' It is this type of mentality, that got Lucifer, kicked out of Heaven. [Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.] This is something, God, will not tolerate. [Isa 48:11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.

So, He requires us to admit, that we are nothing, and know nothing, and that without Him, we can do nothing. We are like sheep, that depend on the shepherd to lead them, and guide them along the safe paths of life. We have to submit our will, to His. For man, that means they have to swallow their pride. That is the prerequisite for blessing.

Next, we have to 'pray.' That means, we have to talk to God, and in the instance of Christians, that means talking to Jesus Christ, and Him only. Everything that we need to know, comes from God, through Jesus Christ. The solutions to our problems are wrapped up in Christ, therefore, we need to talk to Him, to get the information we need, to prosper, in our lives.

When we see the next part, which goes with praying, 'seek my face', it carries with it, the notion that we want to see God, and His glory, so that we can see what it is that pleases Him.

Have you ever seen a kid, that always tries to please his parents??

Children have an inbred desire, to do things to make their parents happy. They seek to be pleasing in their parent's sight. They like to see the big smile on their faces. Likewise, the truly serious Christian, seeks to make God happy, and to do that, they must, know what makes God happy.

Having done that, the next step, is that they have to 'turn from their wicked ways.'

Notice, our ways, are, in God's sight, wicked. [Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.] No matter how good you think you are, or how good people say you are, without God being the director of your soul, you are wicked. Period. The bible says, [Jer 17:9 The heart [of man] is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?] That means, that man's heart, is so deceptive, that it will actually deceive even him. The only one that knows man's heart, is, God. This is one of the reasons that God puts certain commands, and instructions in place for us to follow, that to us, seem totally ridiculous. It is because He knows what we will do, if given our own way of doing things. We will, destroy not only ourselves, but everything around us, while at the same time, thinking we are doing good. Man, left to his own devices, is a disaster, looking for a place to happen. More about that later.

So, God says for us to turn from these ways. This is where the rubber, meets the road. First we admit we are wrong, and seek God for an answer. Then He gives us the answer, and we don't like it. All of the previous steps are totally useless, if you are not willing (here is that word 'will' again) to follow His direction. Turning away from something that is giving us a lot of pain and suffering, is easy to do. But, if it is giving us pleasure, excitement, fulfillment, ecstasy, and things like that, then, we have a big problem, turning it loose. And that is the 'big hook' of sin, and wickedness. The pleasure. The bible says of Moses, [Heb 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Heb 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;] There is pleasure in sin, that is why people do it. Moses, had it all. He had fame, and power as Pharaoh's right hand man, second in command, in Egypt, until he found out who he was really a descendant of, then he turned his back on all of that, to suffer with his brothers, the children of Israel.

But again, we are just like the monkey, who reaches in a jar, and finds an apple, and tries to take it out of that jar, but the neck of the jar is too small for him to remove his hand with the apple in it. So, rather than letting go, he hangs on to the apple, and thereby, goes around with the jar, stuck to his arm. And when trouble comes, and he needs to defend himself, or escape some predator, he is handicapped, because he only has one good arm, because the other one is tied up with the jar. Sounds silly doesn't it? We can see, all of the problems his stubbornness can cause him, yet we are doing the same thing, and can't see our problem. We want to hold on to sin, and risk being destroyed.

So, what we do, is seek God to solve our problems, while at the same time, asking Him to do so, without our letting go of our wickedness.

However, if we are willing to do what He says, look what He says He will do. 'Then will I hear from Heaven, and forgive their sin, and heal their land.' That is the total remedy, for what ails us.

All of the crime, all of the sickness, all of the poverty, and hopelessness, and fear, are the direct result, of our disobedience, to Him. And nothing will change, for the better, as long as we are like that monkey.

Many will say, that some of their actions (solutions), are necessary, because certain things, like providing for their families, means that they are doing, what they have to do. Let me give you a few bible scriptures that put that reasoning out of the picture. [Prv 14:12, 16:25 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (so important, it was recorded, twice)] Our solutions, are corrupt, because we are corrupt. We are incapable of solving our problems on our own, because we only see half of the total picture. [Jas 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Jas 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.] James, makes it very plain, that most of our troubles come about, primarily because of our own selfishness, greed, and envy.

Have you ever noticed, that a lot of people, if praying to God, tend to pray the solution, they want, rather than praying for God's solution?? This is one of the reasons, a lot of people say, God doesn't answer their prayers, so they feel that they have to do, what they have to do. It is not that God doesn't answer them, moreso that He does answer, but with a solution other than the one they want to hear. Now, when it comes to sickness or a disease, praying for healing is different, in some aspects. But, I am talking about praying that God will bless you to hit the lottery, so you can provide for your family, or praying that God will give you a certain person for a spouse, even though that person is already married. They pray that God will kill, or otherwise remove their mate, so they can have them. I know of one person that needed money to feed his family, actually prayed, that God would bless him, not to be harmed, while he was planning to rob someone. Foolishness!! Nothing but Foolishness!!!

And, worst of all, is the fact that God has given us people to reveal to us, what we need to do, and they are just as bad, if not worse than the rest of us. I'm talking about most preachers. When I listen to the answers some of them give, as to what we, or the government needs to do to solve our problems, they let me know that they are not relaying God's message, because they completely ignore the fact that God, is the only solution. They are too busy, trying to look good in the sight of the wicked. And sometimes, they will say, or attribute these same solutions, as coming from God, when they have not. And friend, this is the worst of the worst. When man comes up with some stupid solution, then says, God said it, that is a form of blasphemy. Let me give you an example. Some preachers today, support, what is called, 'affirmative action.' By them doing that, they imply that God, is okay, with it. But, the bible says, [Jas 2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.] This means, that no Christian, should seek to help or be a blessing to people based on their wealth, race, religion, or even gender. Affirmative action, is a racial preference solution, that God disapproves of. Yet, the minute someone like myself, says so, we get all sorts of flack, not from the ungodly, but from others in the body of Christ. That lets me know that the problems that we have in this world, are these corrupted preachers.

Abortion, gay rights, fornication (sex outside of marriage), adultery, drunkeness, lasciviousness (sexually suggestive behavior), pride, blasphemy, and all other manners of unrighteousness, pervade this land. And for the most part, these preachers, instead of following the directions that God has given, instead, come up with solutions, that are designed to make them look good, in the sight of their peers, and man. So, they, are actually trying to steal God's glory. For they know, that if they tell their congregations the truth, then they will be persecuted, just like Jesus was. That's right. Telling the people, God's truth, will cause anyone that is telling it, to be persecuted. Yet, that is the price, 'true men, and women of God' accept, gladly. Jesus once said, [John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. John 15:21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Look at Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton, then look at Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson. Forget about the race. Look at their message to the masses, and see who it is that the wicked hold in high esteem, and who gets persecuted. It lets you know, who is truly on God's side, and who isn't. [Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.] Jesse and Al, are not speaking for God, in fact I don't believe they even know Him. [Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.] If they aren't saying what God says for them to say, and are friends to the ungodly, then what does that say about them???

So, as long as the world chooses to listen to the likes of them, we will continue see, multiplied millions of innocent people, being killed, and dying from all sorts of diseases, starving, and committing suicide, because God will just stand by and let it happen. Prv 1:24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; Prv 1:25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: Prv 1:26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; Prv 1:27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Prv 1:28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: Prv 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: Prv 1:30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Prv 1:31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. Prv 1:32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. Prv 1:33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

The message is clear, God, not only can help us get out of the mess we are in, but, He is the One, that let the trouble we are having, come on us in the first place. Remember, what He says, [Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap Gal 6:7]. We are getting everything we have asked for.

The wisdom of man, or the wisdom of God?? What we think is right, or what God says is right???? Are we going to wise up, or be like that monkey??? If we ever expect to get out of this mess, we will need God to do it, and He, don't bless, no mess.
